Offit Kurman Welcomes Five Attorneys to its Growing Commercial Litigation Practice Group
BETHESDA, (July 13, 2023) – Offit Kurman is pleased to announce the addition of four attorneys to its Commercial Litigation practice group. Joseph Ashby, Justin Corbalis, Dani Schwartz, Austin Hinel and Jisoo (Jay) Kim have joined the firm’s ranks.
Joseph Ashby joins Offit Kurman as a Principal in the Los Angeles, California office, focusing on business litigation, class action defense, trade secret and trademark litigation, contract disputes, and partnership and startup disputes. He represents a diverse range of clients, from family businesses to Fortune 500 companies, in state and federal courts nationwide.
Ashby holds a B.A., summa cum laude, from Arizona State University and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan School of Law where he was an Associate Editor of the Michigan Law Review. He also served as a law clerk for the Honorable Robert Holmes Bell in the Western District of Michigan after completing his J.D.
Justin Corbalis joins the firm as a Principal in the New York, New York office, specializing in commercial litigation. He handles complex commercial cases, class actions, bankruptcy litigation and more. Corbalis represents clients in various industries, including telecommunications, technology, insurance and cannabis. In addition to litigation, Corbalis has vast experience in New Jersey’s cannabis industry. He assists with company formation, application writing, real estate acquisition and more. He also has experience in gaming law across all 50 states. Corbalis is involved in pro bono work, advocating for organizations such as the National Women’s Law Center. Prior to private practice, he clerked for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Corbalis received his B.A. from The College of New Jersey and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Rutgers School of Law, Camden.
Dani Schwartz joins Offit Kurman’s New York, New York office as Principal, focusing on real estate, business and blockchain/crypto disputes. Known for crafting creative strategies, he excels at turning complex business disputes into clear, compelling stories to achieve client objectives. Dani handles a wide range of real estate disputes, including landlord/tenant matters, mortgage foreclosure, and breach of contract. He is also a commercial arbitrator and frequently speaks at events and publishes on a wide array of legal topics.
Schwartz earned his B.A. from Cornell University and his J.D. from The George Washington School of Law.
Austin Hinel joins Offit Kurman as an Associate in the Tysons Corner, Virginia office, concentrating in trust and estate litigation. He represents clients on both plaintiff and defendant sides, with experience in all stages of litigation and mediation. With firsthand knowledge of estate administration and litigation, he provides effective counsel and guidance to clients, navigating various legal issues. He serves a wide range of clients, including local, regional, and international entities.
Hinel received his B.S.B.A from Elon University, Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, and his J.D. from George Mason University, Atonin Scalia School of Law.
Jisoo “Jay” Kim, an Associate in the Bethesda, Maryland office, focuses on contract disputes, commercial leasing, and landlord-tenant representation. He also specializes in personal injury cases, including auto accidents and slip & fall incidents. Before joining the firm, he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Irma S. Raker (ret.) at the Court of Appeals of Maryland and as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Karla N. Smith at the Circuit Court for Montgomery County of Maryland, gaining valuable insights into the judicial process at both trial and appellate levels.
Kim received his B.A. from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and his J.D. from George Washington University Law School. He also holds his LL.M (International Business & Economic Law) from Georgetown University Law Center.
