Please join us as we hear from recognized experts on this omnipresent challenge - Harold Podell, Assistant Director of Information Technology and Cybersecurity, Government Accountability Office, with the GAO for 45 years; Chris Becker, National IT Director with Absolute Care; and Janet Oren, Senior CISO Advisor at Hartman Executive Advisors. We will also be conducting a roundtable discussion with our panelists, during which they will answer questions from the audience. Please join us as our expert speakers discuss their unique take on cybersecurity.

MEET THE SPEAKERS

Dr. Harold Podell

Assistant Director of Information Technology and Cybersecurity - Government Accountability Office, GAO (Retired)

Dr. Podell is a Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University in the Whiting School of Engineering, Engineering for Professionals. He teaches/co-teaches several graduate courses focusing on cybersecurity issues. He retired as an Assistant Director, Information Technology and Cybersecurity, Government Accountability Office after 45 years. His work included participation in multidisciplinary reviews of federal IT security programs involving strategic and tactical cybersecurity issues. For example, he analyzed a PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) strategy of the Federal Reserve, and selected federal IT security guidance documents from NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Dr. Podell joined GAO in 1974 and has also participated in numerous military command and control security reviews. He has a Ph.D. in Business Administration from American University; MSE, University of Alabama; MBA, Syracuse University; and BIE, New York University.

Chris Becker

National IT Director, Absolute Care

Chris has over 25 years of technology experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, and financial industries. His areas of expertise have included architecting and administering core infrastructure, building and configuring enterprise level systems, project and process management, leading teams, and cyber security. In addition to Chris’ current healthcare focus, he supported the initial implementation of mySAP ERP at Pepsi-Co and Pfizer, and played several roles in developing the official training modules for SAP FICO. Early in his career, he was a network and systems administrator at Alex Brown and Intuit. Today, he is the IT Director at AbsoluteCare which operates a growing number of medical practices with a noble mission and has sights set on becoming a large corporation in the coming years.

Janet Oren

Senior CISO Advisor, Hartman Executive Advisors

Janet helps organizations protect their data in a way that makes sense for their business. She dedicates herself to each client she serves, and takes them on an organized and thorough journey to becoming cyber secure and industry compliant. Janet draws on her experience with the federal government where she spent more than 30 years at the National Security Agency, progressing from an intern to a senior executive in the technical field of cybersecurity. She also served as Legg Mason’s Chief Information Security Officer where she developed and implemented a security program and architecture for the global firm of 1,500 employees and 1,000 contractors. Janet has vast experience in systems security engineering, security design and architecture, system development lifecycle, incident response and remediation, policy and governance, and risk assessment. She holds a PhD in Systems Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, two master’s degrees in computer science from Johns Hopkins University and James Madison University, and two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Towson University. She is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP-ISSEP) and a certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP).
