Sandra "Sandy" Brooks, a Family Law Attorney
Sandra "Sandy" Brooks, a Family Law attorney with Offit Kurman, has been selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML). Ms. Brooks is the 11th Offit Kurman attorney to achieve the prestigious distinction.
Founded in 1962, the AAML is dedicated to promoting higher standards of professionalism, proficiency, and integrity in the field of family law. The Academy awards Fellowships to matrimonial lawyers who demonstrate a commitment to its exacting measures of conduct and skill in matters such as divorce, child custody negotiations, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, distribution of marital assets, and collaborative resolutions.
To be eligible for Fellowship with the AAML, an attorney must meet a rigorous set of criteria, including service on a local or national bar association, experience as a matrimonial law professor or course instructor, involvement as amicus curiae in a family law matter before an appellate court, and more.
“Sandy is well-deserving of this monumental achievement,” said Cheryl Hepfer, past president of both the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Family Lawyers, and Ms. Brooks’ long-time colleague and mentor. “She has shown an unabating commitment to the highest standards of the law. She goes above and beyond for every client. Few attorneys are as thoughtful, skilled, and relentless in their representation of a client.”
At Offit Kurman, Ms. Brooks’ practice focuses on a wide range of aspects of Family Law, handling cases throughout all counties in Maryland. She dedicates her time to assisting clients who are going through a divorce, dealing with child custody and visitation, family mediation, spousal and child support, property division, and division of retirement benefits. She also has significant experience in handling tax consequences of divorce, mediation, prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements, negotiating and drafting of separation agreements, domestic litigation, and post-judgment proceedings.
Ms. Brooks has earned numerous points of distinction, including recognition among lists of the Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers Rising Stars, Bethesda Magazine’s “Top Attorneys,” the Daily Record’s “Leading Women,” and National Trial Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40.”
