Offit Kurman’s Mitchell Kelling Named as Incoming Chair for North Carolina Bar Association Family Law Section

Offit Kurman’s Mitchell Kelling, who is a Principal in the firm’s Charlotte office and the Practice Group Leader of the Family Law Practice Group (South), has been selected as the incoming chair of the Family Law section of the North Carolina Bar Association, effective July 1, 2020. Ms. Kelling has been part of the NCBA’s family law section since 2002 and has volunteered on several committees. Previously, she’s chaired the social and the CLE committees. She has also served on the executive committee and in 2019, acted as Vice Chair.
The NCBA Family Law Section provides information and updates on legal and policy developments relating to all aspects of family law by sponsoring CLE programs as an effort to further the knowledge of its members. The section also promotes improvements in the legal practice and jurisprudence by legislative changes, legal education, practice guides, pro bono legal services, and mentoring programs.
At Offit Kurman, Ms. Kelling’s practice focuses on representing clients throughout Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and the surrounding counties. She is certified as a family law specialist by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization and regularly focuses on issues relating to: alimony, child support, equitable distribution of property, litigation of financial disputes, mediation and arbitration for others, post-nuptial agreements, premarital agreements, and separation agreements and property settlements.
Ms. Kelling is well-known for her involvement in creative and informative CLEs such as: “Transgender Legal Issues and Family Law,” and “Making Family Law Great Again.” Her honors include being named as a Best Lawyer in Family law consecutively from 2013-2020, named to the Business North Carolina Legal Elite, and named as one of the 50 Most Influential Women by the Mecklenburg Times. She is a graduate of Harvard University (B.A.) and Wake Forest University’s School of Law (J.D.).
