Offit Kurman’s Meghan Finnerty is Counsel in Half of Law 360’s Key Insurance Coverage Cases to Watch Across the Country

June 25, 2019 | Plymouth Meeting, PA Law 360 identified four key “Insurance Cases to Watch” across the country in the second half of 2019, and Offit Kurman principal Meghan K. Finnerty is counsel in two of the four cases. Finnerty is lead counsel for Richard Carly in Erie Insurance Exchange v. Tracey Moore, which she argued before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in April.  The court’s ruling in that case is expected to  address the “occurrence” requirement found in many policy forms. In addition, Finnerty is counsel for amicus United Policyholders in Nationwide v. Berg, in which Pennsylvania’s highest court is set to review whether a $21 million bad faith verdict against Nationwide should be reinstated.

At Offit Kurman, Finnerty is a principal commercial litigator with an emphasis on insurance coverage and appellate litigation. She counsels policyholders in fields such as energy, finance, construction, manufacturing and retail in commercial litigation disputes, and regularly serves as a sounding board for manufacturing clients on a wide variety of legal issues including insurance losses, risk management, contractual indemnity, employee theft, and collection issues. Additionally, Finnerty analyzes available insurance coverage for her clients under environmental, boiler and machinery, professional, D&O, EPLI, and commercial general liability policies when a company suffers a loss or is named as a defendant in litigation.

Outside of her practice at Offit Kurman, Finnerty frequently appears at legal and insurance industry events to present and lecture on topics in her field.  Last month, Finnerty presented on a Women, Diversity & Change Summit panel in New York, and also served as a featured speaker at the American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section’s Property Insurance Law Committee 2019 Spring Conference on insurance coverage issues arising from the Sharing Economy. When Finnerty is not counseling commercial policyholders or arguing before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, she is likely to be chasing after her three kids in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

If you have questions about whether your insurance policy will cover a loss or a lawsuit filed against you or your business, send Meghan an email at mfinnerty@offitkurman.com, or visit her Offit Kurman attorney page.
