News: Press Release

Offit Kurman’s M&A Group Represents Hockeypuk in Acquisition of Special Aerospace Security Services, Inc.

For Immediate Release

January 17, 2019 | Louisa, VA For attorney Michael Mercurio and the other members of Offit Kurman’s mergers and acquisitions (M&A) team, 2018 will go down in history. Last year, the group set a new record for the number of transactions successfully closed for clients in a 12-month period. Now, with two deals already completed in January of 2019, Mr. Mercurio and his team are preparing for another year that may bring as much—if not more—M&A activity in the Mid-Atlantic.

Offit Kurman’s M&A attorneys are pleased to announce that Hockeypuk Security Consulting, LLC has acquired Special Aerospace Security Services, Inc. (SASSi) along with the National Security Training Institute (NSTi). Mr. Mercurio represented Hockeypuk, the buyer, throughout the transaction.

Since 1988, Special Aerospace Security Services, Inc. (SASSi) has operated as a Small Business Administration-certified Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) based in Chantilly, VA. The firm has specialized in delivering integrated security solutions, health security services, and other national security mission solutions to US government agencies. Additionally, SASSi operates the National Security Training Institute (NSTi), an educational institute dedicated to the advancement of security professionals through the presentation of courses and seminars in the national security arena.

Hockeypuk Cybersecurity Consulting, itself a WOSB, is a cybersecurity consulting services and solutions provider headquartered in Louisa, VA. The company was founded in 2017 by Robby Ann Carter, a former Unit Chief within the Security Division of the FBI and one of the first women in US history tasked with protecting high-ranking members of the nation’s intelligence community. In addition to consulting for the federal government, Hockeypuk serves state-level agencies as well as commercial and private industry customers.

The deal between Hockeypuk and SASSi is one of many transactions Offit Kurman’s M&A attorneys have helped close for government contractors and other clients in the past few months.
