Offit Kurman Partners with NYSBA on Force Majeure and COVID-19 Webinar CLE

Attorneys from Offit Kurman are partnering with the New York State Bar Association on Tuesday, March 24th from 2:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. to present a 1.5-credit webinar CLE to discuss Force Majeure in the world’s current pandemic state. Titled, The Pandemic is Beyond Your Control - But Is It Force Majeure?A Review of Force Majeure Clauses in Contracts, the discussion will cover when a force majeure clause does or doesn’t include pandemics, best practices for drafting these clauses when are business losses from pandemics covered by business interruption insurance or liability insurance, real-world experiences, practical steps to take before a disaster strikes, and more.

COVID-19 has startled us into a new reality. How can we, as lawyers, help our clients navigate through similar world-changing events and plan better for the future?

The Offit Kurman panel will include Thomas Pitegoff as moderator and Stuart Newman and Michael Conley as panelists. Mr. Newman will discuss the drafting of force majeure clauses and how COVID-19 might be within the scope of a force majeure clause. They will talk about real-world experiences and navigating force majeure events with clients and offer practical pointers on how to advise clients faced with events that make contractual performance difficult or impossible. Mr. Conley will explain the coverage that various types of insurance might offer.
