Offit Kurman Expands Government Transparency Practice

For Immediate Release

Philadelphia, PA | March 19, 2021

Offit Kurman is pleased to announce the formation of its Government Transparency practice group. Under the leadership of Mark E. Gottlieb, this group brings together attorneys from complimentary practice areas who each have a wealth of experience advising businesses, individuals, and government entities on the contours of local, state, and federal law. The Government Transparency practice group represents businesses and individuals seeking information from government agencies. Offit Kurman attorneys assist with the bidding process, the Federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and state public records laws including Maryland’s Public Information Act (MPIA), Pennsylvania’s Right to Know Law (RTKL), New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act (OPRA), and New York’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL).  The team also advises clients on how to tailor a public record request and protect their trade secrets.

In addition, the attorneys of the Government Transparency group guide local government offices on how to create an efficient system for responding to records requests, and how to efficiently and successfully litigate to limit the burdens on your office.  In addition, our attorneys routinely advise government agencies on the contours of their duty to disclose records, the right to deny access to records under applicable law, and the right to charge fees to requesters. The attorneys in the group also help agencies understand and comply with Sunshine Act requirements.

The transparency group Is a result of our expanding representation of existing and growing representation of government agencies, private industry, media and individuals who are either seeking public records or responding to a request for public records. The formation of our group constitutes a formal recognition of our growing practice in this expanding area of the law.
