East Hanover, NJ – February 28, 2022 - Offit Kurman announced today that it has expanded its presence into East Hanover, New Jersey with the addition of family law attorneys Tanya L. Freeman and Carole A. Hafferty as principals and Devon MacGillivray as an associate, who join from the Weiner Law Group. This addition marks the firm’s seventeenth office and its fourth in the New York-New Jersey area.
Chairman Ted Offit said, “We are proud to continue our expansion in Northern New Jersey with Tanya and her talented group of family law practitioners. Strengthening our family practice is an integral part of our firm’s long-term strategy and the addition of this team makes Offit Kurman an even better firm to serve the needs of private clients in the New York-New Jersey area.”
Offit Kurman’s newest lawyers in East Hanover include:
Tanya Freeman, Principal. Ms. Freeman provides legal representation in all aspects of family law, including divorce, child and spousal support, child custody, interstate custody and relocation disputes. Before practicing law, Ms. Freeman spent 15 years leading banking and insurance audit teams. Today she draws upon her financial, negotiation and legal experience to benefit clients. She is active in both the local and legal communities and serves as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of University Hospital in Newark, appointed by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. She is the recipient of numerous awards and was recently named Family Practitioner of the Year by the Essex County Bar Association.
Carole A. Hafferty, Principal. Ms. Hafferty represents clients in all matters of family law, including equitable division of assets and liabilities, division of closely held businesses, child support, child custody, relocation, cohabitation, termination/modification of alimony and post-judgment asset division and enforcement. In 2019 she was involved in the precedential New Jersey cohabitation law case, Landau v. Landau, where the Courts ruled in her client’s favor and reaffirmed long-standing principles which provide protections to ex-spouses accused of cohabitation who are at risk of losing both alimony and privacy rights. Before joining private practice, Ms. Hafferty served as a law clerk to The Honorable David M. Borden of the Supreme Court of Connecticut.
Devon W. MacGillivray, Associate. Ms. MacGillivray’s family law focus includes divorce, child support, custody, parenting time, equitable distribution and spousal support.
“My team and I were very attracted to Offit Kurman’s full-service platform and best-in-class family law practice,” said Tanya Freeman. “When we learned of the firm’s collaborative working environment, progressive management structure and strategic commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, we knew this would be the right fit.”
