News: Press Release
Meghan Finnerty as a Featured Presenter at Women, Diversity & Change Summit in New York
For Immediate Release
May 15, 2019 | Plymouth Meeting, PA
Offit Kurman principal Meghan Finnerty spoke at the CenterForce USA Women, Diversity & Change Summit that took place in New York City on May 8th.
CenterForce’s Women, Diversity & Change Summits seek to create lasting change for women and minorities in the legal profession. Each event draws hundreds of partners and general counsel from around the country for a day full of educational content, workshops, and networking opportunities.
At the New York event, Ms. Finnerty spoke on a panel titled “Sponsors, Influencers & Career Engineering for Legal Counsel.” The panel explored the importance of women and minorities in law, the necessity of sponsorship to achieve corporate parity, differentiating sponsors from mentors and influencers, redefining the “old boys network” in the legal profession, identifying current and potential sponsors, and more.
Panelists alongside Ms. Finnerty included Ilona Logvinova (Senior Counsel, Mastercard); Denise Sharperson (State Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Manager, Civil Service Commission/State of New Jersey); Penelope Barnett (Assistant Vice President and Head Counsel – Claims Substantiation Americas, L’Oréal); Jacqueline Yecies (Partner, Akin Gump); and Adorys Velazquez (Partner, Baker Botts).
At Offit Kurman, Ms. Finnerty is a principal commercial litigator with an emphasis on insurance coverage and appellate litigation. She has represented companies in fields such as energy, finance, construction, manufacturing and retail in commercial litigation disputes, and regularly serves as a sounding board for manufacturing clients on a wide variety of legal issues including insurance losses, risk management, contractual indemnity, employee theft, and collection issues. Additionally, Ms. Finnerty analyzes available insurance coverage for her clients under environmental, boiler and machinery, professional, D&O, EPLI, and commercial general liability policies when a company suffers a loss or is named as a defendant in litigation.
In addition to her trial work, Ms. Finnerty is well-versed in appellate practice, and has argued zoning and insurance coverage cases before all of Pennsylvania’s appellate courts. In April, Law360 reported on arguments Ms. Finnerty made before the state Supreme Court in an insurance coverage dispute. To read the articlele, click here.
Outside of her practice at Offit Kurman, Ms. Finnerty frequently appears at legal and insurance industry events to present and lecture on topics in her field. Just a day after her Women, Diversity & Change Summit panel, Ms. Finnerty served as a featured speaker at the American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section’s Property Insurance Law Committee 2019 Spring Conference. In addition, she is an active mom of three children under nine.
