Matthew Asbell Appointed Chair of Non-Fungible Tokens Task Force of the American Bar Association Intellectual Property Section

Offit Kurman is pleased to congratulate Intellectual Property Principal Matthew Asbell on his appointment as Chair of the newly formed Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) Task Force of the American Bar Association (ABA), Section of Intellectual Property Law, 2022-2023.

As the chair, Mr. Asbell leads the group in its meetings and in determining how to identify areas of consensus and address areas of disagreement between IP lawyers in order to, in some cases very quickly, arrive at policies supported by more than a simple majority.

The Task Force is charged with reviewing and addressing the intellectual property issues surrounding NFTs, including by preparing formal comments for adoption by the ABA in response to a Notice of Inquiry (NOI) issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and U.S. Copyright Office, and reviewing and approving a resolution by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws adopting amendments to the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) in relation to transactions involving digital assets, including cryptocurrency and NFTs.
