Experts from Offit Kurman, The Maryland Tech Council, and Drucker & Scaccetti Present Dynamic Panel on M&A in the Life Sciences Industry

Philadelphia, PA | July 3, 2019 The Mid-Atlantic is experiencing a period of explosive mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity. That includes numerous transactions in the life sciences industry. To help life science business owners take full advantage of the opportunities before them, Offit Kurman, the Maryland Tech Council, and Drucker & Scaccetti teamed up earlier this month to host “A Deal Starts with One: M&A in the Life Sciences Industry,” a dynamic and interactive panel discussion.

The panel consisted of M&A legal, financial, and tax experts, with a focus on life science companies. Moderated by Maryland Tech Council CEO Martin Rosendale, the program guided attendees through the M&A process, offering considerations for buyers and sellers on all aspects of deal flow, from preparation and funding to closing.

Panelists included Danielle DeCesare (CPA, Drucker & Scaccetti) and Herbert Fineburg, and Gregory Grissett of Offit Kurman. Each brought expertise in unique and complementary areas: Ms. DeCesare in tax and accounting matters, Mr. Fineburg for tax savings  (including estate/trust, at length estate and gift tax savings planning for the company owners, and income tax planning), and Mr. Grissett in life sciences intellectual property development and protection.

The panelists engaged in a discussion about M&A in the life sciences industry then answered questions from Mr. Rosendale and audience members. The event concluded with an interview of a principal in a recently closed life sciences M&A transaction.

“A Deal Starts with One: M&A in the Life Sciences Industry” was part of the 2019 BIO International Convention, held June 3–6, 2019. The conference brought more than 16,000 attendees from 67 countries to the tri-state area (Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware) for four days of partnering, education, and networking.
