Linda Sorg Ostovitz Recognized as an Inaugural Her Mind Community Heroes Award Winner
For Immediate Release
Columbia, MD | January 20, 2020
Linda Sorg Ostovitz, Offit Kurman principal attorney and Legal Operations Chair, has been named a Her Mind Community Heroes Award Winner.
Presented by Her Mind magazine, the Her Mind Community Heroes Awards recognize individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the Howard County community. This is the first year the honor has been awarded.
Her Mind magazine covers stories about and related to women in Howard County, offering “insightful and inspiring stories about Howard County women in business, philanthropy, community service, and the arts.” The magazine is written and designed by women and seeks to increase readers’ awareness of change-making women in their community.
When asked how she felt about learning she would receive the award in its inaugural year, Ms. Ostovitz remarked on her surprise.
“It gave me chills,” she said. “I feel truly flattered and honored. I don’t engage in the community with any thought whatsoever of being recognized, but because it’s good work, it’s fulfilling and most important, it helps someone. This award took my breath away.”
In her 38 years of practice, Ms. Ostovitz has served as a leader, educator, and advocate. She holds a prestigious fellowship in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and serves as the Vice President of the Maryland Chapter. She also serves on the Boards of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce, the Columbia Patuxent Rotary Club, and Respite Retreats.
Ms. Ostovitz represents clients in Howard, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Montgomery, and Baltimore Counties. Her practice focuses exclusively on divorce litigation and mediation, child custody and access, child support, alimony, and business valuation, as well as property and asset distribution. In addition to providing legal representation in court, Ms. Ostovitz provides mediation services to help families come to a resolution without the need for litigation.
Ms. Ostovitz is also a frequent author, speaker, and guest lecturer. She has written and contributed to various publications on family law matters, and hosted numerous events for Offit Kurman and regional organizations. Additionally, she runs HoCo in the Know, a blog and interview series featuring news from Howard County and insights from local leaders.
Outside of her legal practice, Ms. Ostovitz has been involved in myriad organizations and causes in and around Howard County. For years, she has been a member of the Rotary Club of Columbia Patuxent, where she currently serves as president. With Ms. Ostovitz’s involvement, the Columbia Patuxent Rotary has raised tens of thousands of dollars for local nonprofit organizations dedicated to ending hunger, providing shelter, easing end-of-life care, promoting literacy, supporting emerging businesses, and more.
Ms. Ostovitz is also an active supporter of Gilchrist Hospice, the Business Women's Network of Howard County, and the Howard County Chamber of Commerce—where she serves on the board, executive committee, and governance committee. Her dedication to networking and career development extends to experience serving as a judge in the Maryland State Bar Association high school mock trial competitions, as well as mentoring younger attorneys.
“It gives me pleasure to help people and to do good things” said Ms. Ostovitz. “Plus, the experiences I’ve had have exposed me to people and opportunities I wasn’t aware of before. When you get involved in your community, one thing tends to lead to another.”
Her Mind Community Heroes Winners will receive the awards at the 1st Annual Her Mind Live event on Thursday, March 5, 2020. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
