J. Benjamin Stevens Named President-Elect of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers
Offit Kurman is pleased to congratulate Family Law Principal J. Benjamin Stevens for his recent appointment as President-Elect of American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) on November 11, 2022.
Mr. Stevens previously served as a Vice President for 5 years, and he was integral in several initiatives, including the recent redesign of the AAML’s new website. As President-Elect, Mr. Stevens will assist AAML President Brent A. Cashatt in ensuring the continued smooth operation of the 1,500-member organization. Mr. Stevens will also continue planning the activities that will take place after he becomes President in 2023, which will include the AAML’s first-ever national family law continuing education program designed for younger attorneys who have been practicing 3 to 7 years.
Mr. Stevens is also a Fellow in the International Academy of Family Lawyers and is a Board Certified Family Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is the only attorney in South Carolina with those simultaneous distinctions. These organizations, along with the AAML, ensure that Mr. Stevens has access to a plethora of resources and expert opinions for his family law clients, which continues serving them well in their time spent dealing with divorce proceedings or other related legal matters.
Mr. Stevens has been featured in numerous publications, including Forbes, ABA Journal and South Carolina Lawyers Weekly, and has taught continuing legal education seminars to other attorneys all across South Carolina, nationally, and internationally.
Founded in 1962 AAML has operated as a nonprofit association of Family Lawyers who have experience and concentrate in all issues related to marriage, divorce, child custody and visitation, annulment, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, matters affecting unmarried cohabitants, business valuation and property distribution, alimony, and support.
