Hoco In the Know: Howard County Conservancy Extreme Weather
School buses full of excited 6th graders filed into the Conservancy for a day of Extreme Weather experiences. Ava Marie, of Channel 11, spoke of her love of being a meteorologist, and I got to confess that I know nothing of weather or science, but I listen to Ava Marie so I know what shoes to wear!
The Conservancy hosted BGE, OEM, Davey Tree, and others who provided hands on experiences for the students throughout the day. Despite the rain and the chill, the students went outside to learn about trees and the danger of unhealthy trees and weather. BGE brought in its truck with demonstrations of what happens when something encounters a live power line. OEM had its mobile command center on site for the students to explore.
Once again, the Rotary Club of Columbia Patuxent was a sponsor of this fun and educational event. We remain committed to our immersion in our community and to being good people doing great things. If you’d like to learn more about us, visit us at www.columbiarotary.org, or join us for a meeting on Friday mornings at 7:30 am at the Wilde Lake Interfaith Center in Columbia.
