Please take a moment to reflect on the origins of Memorial Day — a tradition that began shortly after the Civil War originally known as Decoration Day.  This was a day to add flowers and wreaths to the graves of the fallen soldiers. The name was later changed to Memorial Day and while it was not declared a federal holiday until 1971, New York actually declared it a state holiday earlier on in 1873. If you have a flag, be sure to fly it at half-staff for the first part of the day and raise it to full at noon in remembrance of our fallen soldiers and the ultimate sacrifice for their country.  Enjoy the day!
