The Paycheck Fairness Act and Other Ways of Employment Discrimination
On January 30, 2019, a proposed bill was introduced into Congress entitled The Paycheck Fairness Act. The goal of this proposed legislation is to address historical disparities in wages paid to men and women in the workplace. There are several tentacles to this proposed legislation including: a wage history ban on employers and a mandate that any wage disparities be justified on factors other than sex. The legislation contains strong penalties for violations, including punitive damages to be assessed against offending employers. Click here to listen or read the Telebrief transcript.
