Telebriefs®: United States Department of Health and Human Services Publishes Report on America’s Opioid Misuse and Overdose Crisis
The United States Department of Health and Human Services recently published a report entitled, “Facing Addiction in America – The Surgeon General’s Spotlight on Opioids.” The comprehensive 40-page report discusses the national opioid epidemic and its detrimental effects on the population in the United States. In 2016, there were more than 115 American opioid overdose deaths each day and this number is continuing to rise. The report also touches on how employers can be proactive in the workplace so that they can aid employees who may be suffering from the effects of opioid overdose, misuse, or addiction. This includes offering education, support, and treatment benefits for workers. To learn more about the Opioid crisis and its effects on the workplace, listen to this week’s Telebrief here.

Also in this week’s Telebrief: Cert Petitions with employment issues have been filed with the Supreme Court for its consideration for the 2018-2019 term. In addition, the National Labor Relations Board is still in the process of reviewing the email usage case covered in its Purple Communications decision. The Board also proposed a rule related to joint employment. Lastly, the termination of Les Moonves from CBS is discussed.
