ALERT: Maryland Paid Sick Leave Went Into Effect on February 11, 2018

Despite efforts to postpone the effective date of the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act (sick leave), the law went into effect on February 11, 2018. This means that employers that have not updated existing leave policies or implemented new policies are likely not in compliance and could be exposed to damages and penalties. Although legislative efforts remain ongoing, all employers in Maryland should take the steps necessary to comply with the law.
