Deborah Petito Quoted in Law360 on Gen Z Age Bias Claims

Offit Kurman Principal Practice Group Leader of the Labor and Employment practice group, Deborah Petito, was recently quoted in the Law360 article, “Employer Wariness of Gen Z May Spur Age Bias Claims.” The article examines a recent study showing employers are increasingly avoiding hiring Gen Z employees, something that could prove problematic down the road and is leading to more claims of age bias from younger employees.

Petito told Law360 she’s been getting calls from employers who are having a hard time with their young workers. She pointed to the issue of pronoun use in the workplace as being a tough one for employers. For example, if a Zoomer asks co-workers to use “they/them” pronouns when referring to them and a colleague slips up, or gets confused, Gen Z workers are “very sensitive to it,” Petito said.

“I think it’s a challenge to try to train them to engage,” she said.
