PRACTICE FOCUS
Heather Scalzo is a family court litigator with 20 years of courtroom experience. She represents clients in all aspects of family law, including divorce matters, child and spousal support actions, child custody cases, adoptions, abuse and neglect cases brought by DSS and juvenile criminal defense cases.
Driven by a passion for advocating for youth, Heather began her career in family law through representing youth in criminal proceedings. She gained extensive experience and training in child development during her fourteen-year tenure as a juvenile public defender, which she now uses to help children in her custody cases. Her unique perspective ensures that the developmental needs of children are always at the forefront and are tailored to the child's age and stage of development in these sensitive matters. Heather's dedication to understanding and addressing these factors helps her to achieve favorable outcomes for families.
In addition to her significant work with children, Heather has worked with families in all shapes and forms. She has represented foster parents, grandparents, stepparents, biological parents and other guardians in contested custody and termination of parental rights proceedings in trials and appeals.
Heather handles appeals in family court cases and has argued in the S.C. Court of Appeals and the S.C. Supreme Court.
