Mr. Mercurio is a principal and Chair of the Firm's Business and Real Estate Practice. Mr. Mercurio serves as outside general counsel to clients on matters relating to corporate and business law, commercial transactions and real estate. As a strategic partner to firm clients, he regularly counsels entrepreneurial individuals and assorted entities on all aspects of business and commerce including formation and structure; ownership, management and control; financing and capital; expansion and acquisition; sale and transfer; and contraction and dissolution. Mr. Mercurio is well versed in the various issues and challenges companies of all sizes and industries face in the business life cycle including start-up, maturation and end stage considerations. Further, Mr. Mercurio specializes in ownership planning — that is helping business owners prepare and optimally transition their business to third parties, management or family.

Mr. Mercurio brings dynamic and thoughtful problem solving to every client issue and treats each and every client with white glove personal service. Mr. Mercurio designed, negotiated and documented numerous corporate transactions and business combinations involving multi-million dollars of value for the acquisition of (and at other times disposition of) assets classes of all types as well as equity interests. A representative sampling of some of the industries Mr. Mercurio has engaged include recycling and waste management, government contracts, medical and health care, mortgage and financial services, franchising and restaurant and food stuffs.
Activities
Mr. Mercurio currently sits on the Boards of Directors of the (i) J-REF; (ii) Saint Augustine School Board (Chair); (iii) the Business Opportunity Network; and (iv) Neighbor Ride. He also serves on informal advisory boards for several firm clients. Actively interested in issues related to family businesses, Mr. Mercurio is a member of the Family Firm Institute and a partner of the Greater Washington, DC Family Business Alliance. In addition, Mr. Mercurio is a graduate of the Leadership Howard County Class of 2008.

Mr. Mercurio is a frequent lecturer to business owners on topics ranging from corporate formation structuring and planning to business exit considerations and transfers.
