Practice Focus
Erik Arena’s practice is focused primarily on Family Law, including the negotiation and drafting of pre- and post-nuptial agreements and the litigation and negotiation of divorce proceedings (identification, valuation, classification and division of marital and non-marital property, alimony, and attorney’s fees and suit money), child custody, paternity, child support matters and domestic violence protective order actions.

Mr. Arena is an active member of the Family Law section within the American Bar Association, Maryland Bar Association and Bar Association of Montgomery County, Maryland. He is also currently on the Mentor/Mentee Committee and is a Programs Committee Co-Chair for the Bar Association of Montgomery County. He has been an active member in the Trial Lawyers Association as well.
Erik received the Public Service Award from the University of Maryland, School of Law in May 2004 and the Certificate of Merit from the Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland in February 2004. In February 2005, Erik received the University of Maryland Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Diversity Recognition Award.
Activities
Mr. Arena is currently on the Barfly Men’s Club Lacrosse Team, is the Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 1998 (2005-Present) and enjoys running, hiking, camping and whitewater rafting.
Previous Work
In 2004-2005, Mr. Arena served as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Dennis M. McHugh of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland. During his clerkship, Erik observed and analyzed many family law proceedings through the Court’s eyes and developed a sophisticated understanding of the Court’s policies and procedures.
